Google Forms

Today we had a workshop with Tser Lin. She showed us how to create a google form and how we could use this to support our learning.

What is the purpose of creating google forms?

What are some of the shortcuts you know on the chrome books? Tser Lin showed us quite a few today!

St Monica’s Visit

Today students in Year 4 experienced a couple of hours in the life of a secondary school student. They listened to some students speak about the difference between charitable work and social justice. They also identified after a creative activity, the key concepts of social justice. The second lesson was an Italian lesson!

What were some of the differences you noticed between secondary school and primary school?

Procedure Text

This term we are exploring procedure texts. This morning students needed to work together in groups to follow a procedure in the form of a recipe. They needed to ask questions to clarify what the steps in the recipe were asking, in the end they produced some delicious chocolate coconut balls. We will be giving these to our wonderful grandparents tomorrow for Grandparents Day.IMG_1749

Was this procedure easy to follow? Why or why not?
I noticed a lot of maths knowledge was needed whilst making the chocolate coconut balls, can you list some of the maths involved during this task?

Investigating Material

Today students were asked to observe six objects: a spoon, pencil, clear container with lemonade, an inflated balloon, honey and water. From their observations the students were asked to comment on each object’s shape, the way it moves and list appropriate describing words. Students then classified each object as a solid, liquid or gas based on the information they  had collected and what they know about solids, liquids and gases.

Lots of great discussions and collaboration between groups! Well done 3/4’s.

What are some other examples of solids, liquids, gases that you can think of around your home?

Plastic Bags

More than 70 per cent of the rubbish entering Australian oceans is plastic, according to Animals Australia. About 100,000 animals are killed by plastic bags each year.

Greenpeace said 30 per cent of the world’s turtles and 90 per cent of the world’s seabird species have ingested plastic debris.

On Friday Coles and Woolworths announced that they are going to be banning plastic bags in the next 12 months. Do you think this is a good idea? Explain why/ why not in the comment section below.

Class Novel

Today the postman delivered a package from Booktopia. Inside it is our new class novel. Three copies, one for each class.

Mrs Bonolo, Miss Saladino and I are super excited to read it to you, this term. You’ll have to wait until Monday to find out the title of the new book. Hopefully it will be as good as ‘Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing!’

We hope you have had a wonderful break with your family and look forward to seeing you very soon.
